March 2022 Update

Here we are January 2022 and we are still battling COVID, the Omicron variant this time.
We are working on safely having some in person trainings and meetings, but it may be another few months before this can happen.

We are putting together Zoom trainings that involves review of our basic training. With COVID we all have expired First Aid and CPR/AED cards, these zoom trainings will help with memory of our past trainings. January’s zoom will be on Basic First Aid. This is not a certification, it’s a review. This zoom was put together by American Safety Emergency Medical Training in 2008, we have had a few changes since then. It’s good information, except, the instructor talks about raising your feet above your heart for shock. We do not do that anymore. February’s Zoom meeting will be on reviewing Triage.

We are still working on getting a place to have in person monthly all CERT meetings. The TPWB is still unavailable to us at this time.

Things are Happening

  • March 12 – Essential Needs Drive: This Saturday is a essential needs drive, coordinated by the City of Tigard. We have a few Tigard CERT members helping out with this event. Please visit the link for a list of items needed –http://ow.ly/rxyP50IesLY (no food really, just cloths and COVID stuff)
  • April 22 – Tigard CERT Day: Last year the mayor of Tigard designated April 22th Tigard CERT Day, which is also World Earth Day! Give us some ideas as to what we can do the bring attention to this great day. Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection, First held on April 22, 1970.
  • April 11-23 – Bottle Drop Give: Bottle drop is celebrating Earth Day by doing another Earth Day Give. What this means is that for every blue bag we drop in, between April 11th to 23rd they will add an additional 20% to our account. All you have to do is hold on to your full blue bags until at least April 11th and then drop them in. If you don’t have room for the full bags to sit around, call Chuck (CERT Commander) and he’ll come pick them up. If anyone needs more Blue bags, he’ll be happy to drop some off to you.
  • April 16 – Egg Hunt: City of Tigard has the annual Egg Hunt on their calendar. Saturday April 16th, starting at 9:00am in Cook Park. They have not requested our help at this time. When we hear from them, I’ll put out a request for volunteers.
  • June 24-26 – Tigard Festival of Balloons: This event is on the calendar for Cook Park. We will need quit a few volunteers for this one. We will probably be in charge of a First Aid and lost and found again. More information as it comes in.
  • First aid, CPR, AED classes – We are working on putting together these badly needed classes. We need to get a head count as to how many people need recertification and how many need the full class. These classes have limits as to the number of students. Please respond to me or Carin at tigardcertpm@gmail.com (her new email address) if you want to be put on the list for classes.
  • Summer gathering – We want to put together a summer gathering, outside, to eat, play games, or just talk to each other in person. We are looking at August or September. Let Carin or Chuck know your thoughts as to what weekends will work for you.
